Doug Murray has spent a lifetime practicing and participating in the field of sports, while persevering and pursuing the world of video. Whether it’s his enthusiasm for the game and the athletes who play it, or his passion for great video and his chance to create it, he has few peers. So it came as no surprise, that while attending Baylor University, he began his formal training by writing and producing a weekly high school football program for a local television network affiliate. It wasn’t long after that he found himself in the press box serving as a play-by-play broadcaster for both Baylor football and baseball games. That led to a BA degree in Broadcast Communications and the opportunity to become involved in the production of a couple of nationally televised events and specials.
From there it was on to corporate America and the opportunity to work with Pinnacle Brands, Inc. of Dallas, as a manager of the creative product development department. Doug played a major role in the company, helping to generate $100 million plus in sales, while overseeing one of the highest grossing products in the sports trading card market. He would also be involved in the contract negotiations of several well-known entertainers and professional athletes, such as Cooperstown Hall of Fame ballplayer, Nolan Ryan, Daytona 500 winner, Ward Burton, and NHL Hall of Famer, Mario Lemieux.
After four years with Pinnacle Brands, Doug moved on and became part of the team at Genesco Sports Enterprises, as the Properties and Development manager. He was responsible for evaluating sponsorship contracts for pro athletes and professional sports teams eager to partner with major corporations such as Pepsi-Cola, Frito Lay and Denny’s. He would soon find himself on the road, spending weekends at selective NASCAR races and major league ballparks, making certain that his corporate clients were pleased and enthusiastic with their partnerships.
But, it was obvious Doug’s true passion was in the film and video world. So, while continuing a relationship with Genesco Sports, he entered the video production business, where he had an immediate impact. He collaborated on an award-winning World War II Documentary, in the role of executive producer. The film captured honors at The Gulf Coast Film Festival, The USA Film Festival, and The Newport Beach Film Festival, among others. It was an unexpected, but, most rewarding debut into the film and video world. Not surprisingly, in 2004, Doug resigned from Genesco Sports and founded 7 Sky Productions and Talent Representation, bringing together video production, A/V services and a talent agency division that booked emcees and speakers for assorted appearances. Within a year, he was the recipient of four different awards for his creative efforts as director/producer with 7 Sky.
Midway through 2005, Doug took advantage of another opportunity and decided to join forces with his father, former TV anchor, Scott Murray. The two created Murray Media and have never looked back. It’s been a very productive partnership. Doug serves as President/COO, in addition to continuing his work on The Perfect Hero, the story of the legendary Heisman Trophy winner, Doak Walker. His plan is to soon see it released as a full-length feature film. Like sports, watching movies, television specials, and being involved in video production of all kinds have been a part of Doug’s life as far back as he can remember. Now his passion, indeed, has become his mission. Wouldn’t we all like to be lucky enough to know that what we enjoy as our avocation is also our real life vocation. Doug remains busy in his community as a volunteer of non-profit efforts, serving with such groups as the Young Leadership Board of Gilda’s Club, helping to raise awareness and offer support to patients and families dealing with cancer.
